Senior iOS Engineer at Tule

Help farmers grow more food while wasting less water.

Live in California and want to help solve the water crisis? Have a soft spot for agriculture and want to give them the tools they need to be more efficient? Tule provides farmers the feedback they need to give their plants the minimal amount of water necessary to meet their production goals. Agriculture accounts for 80% of human water use in California. Efficiency gains for farmers saves more water than any urban water conservation effort. You can either take a 2 minute shower and save a drop in the bucket, or you can work at Tule and make a significant impact on global water use.

Our product is enabled by a core technology advantage. We have developed a novel sensor that can measure how much water is being used by plants over a 10 acre area. Using the data from our sensors, we can tell farmers how to optimize irrigation to improve yield, quality, and water efficiency.

The Central Role of iOS in Farming

Farmers have to spend most their time in the field, so mobile is the primary interface for accessing Tule data and recommendations. We plan to bring the same level of delightful customer experience to farming that companies like Square and Slack have brought to other industries. Designing an interface that is simple enough to use in the bright sunshine of a farm field, and capable of managing data for tens of thousands of acres, is going to be a fascinating challenge.

The Opportunity

Requirements:

  • Strong CS fundamentals and passion for logically structured code
  • Appreciation for the importance of automated tests and continuous integration
  • Experience building sufficiently complicated iOS apps (Links to the app store are good, links to github are better)
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping

Desireable:

  • Experience building apps that support offline functionality
  • Experience building (or willingness learn) Ruby on Rails to support the iOS app (APIs, etc)
  • Contribution to open source software (please include links)
